a stitch beyond

A number of you, I know, have stashes of material from previous courses, along with plans for exciting projects that never quite come to fruition. Time, space, inspiration, group support and gentle guidance from the tutor are all on offer at my studio during this week. All the resources of the studio and garden will be available for use and there may even be one or two group activities, depending on the interests of the members.

But the focus will be on each of you developing your own direction as a textile artist. All the other participants will share their own background skills and knowledge and will be familiar with my methods through already having attended, ideally, at least two of my courses. Although there will be the opportunity to make work from scratch, you will come with aspirations, some materials and at least the germ of an idea.

A place on this retreat is by application only. To let me know you are interested and to find out more, please e-mail me by return.

All materials, refreshments and cooked lunches are included in the price.

Jan's studio is in Elphin, overlooking the magnificent mountains of Suilven, Canisp, Cul Mor and Cul Beag. This remote location means that accommodation is a little more difficult to find, but the experience of visiting this area makes the search well worthwhile. Many course participants opt to stay in Ullapool, which is 20 minutes drive away. It is a most picturesque fishing village, with a good range of accommodation to suit all budgets. There are many restaurants and takeaways and shops, as well as some evening entertainment, should you have any energy left at the end of that day's workshop. And students often group together and car share for their daily trip up the road, past Stac Pollaidh, to the studio. Please look at the Accommodation links page to find out more.
